🐾 May 4th – May Showers & Lawn Growth: How to Avoid Overwatering
Hey friends, Brinx here.
The rain has officially entered its “main character” phase… and my paws have noticed.
May in Kansas typically brings increased rainfall (hello, muddy zoomies), which means your lawn is already getting a lot of natural hydration. The biggest mistake homeowners make this time of year? Overwatering.
🌧️ What Kansas Weather Means for Your Lawn:
Frequent rain = saturated soil
Cloud cover = slower evaporation
Rising temps = faster growth
💧 How to Water Correctly in May:
1. Check Before You Water
If the top 2–3 inches of soil are still moist, skip watering.
2. Water Deep, Not Often
When needed, water thoroughly 2–3 times per week—not daily—to encourage deep root growth.
3. Watch for Signs of Overwatering
Mushy ground
Fungus or yellowing patches
Increased weeds
🌱 Pro Tip:
Too much water can be just as harmful as too little. It weakens root systems and creates ideal conditions for disease.
Why it matters:
Managing water correctly in May helps build a lawn that can survive Kansas summer heat and drought conditions.
I’ll continue testing puddle depth for you. You’re welcome.
