Brinx’s Backyard Blog: Preparing Your Outdoor Space for Late Fall 🍁🐾
Get your backyard ready for cooler months with Brinx’s top fall prep tips! From landscape cleanups to pool closings and patio care, Treescapes has your outdoor space covered in Andover, KS.
Hey Friends, Brinx Here!
Can you believe it’s already late October? 🍂 The air’s turning crisp, the leaves are piling up, and I’m on full-time “yard supervisor” duty. Before the cold really settles in, let’s make sure your outdoor spaces are prepped, protected, and picture-perfect for the season ahead!
1. Clean Up Your Landscape Before the Frost Hits
Late fall is your last call for yard cleanups before winter. Clearing leaves, pruning plants, and prepping flowerbeds now makes spring a whole lot easier later.
Leaf & Debris Removal: Keeps your lawn healthy and prevents mold.
Trim & Prune: Cut back perennials and shrubs to encourage growth next spring.
Mulch & Protect: Add mulch to insulate roots and retain moisture.
Brinx Tip: Don’t toss those leaves right away—use some for compost or as natural insulation!
2. Prep Your Pool for Winter (and Avoid Spring Surprises)
If you haven’t winterized your pool yet, now’s the time.
Pool Closing: Drain to the correct level, blow out lines, and protect your equipment — starting at $250.
Winter Covers: Keep out debris and critters — installs start at $150.
Automatic Covers: Convenient, safe, and stylish for year-round pool protection.
Brinx Tip: Don’t wait! As of August 2025, we’re still seeing a 3–4 week wait time for cover orders and installations.
3. Shut Down Irrigation & Sprinkler Systems
If you haven’t scheduled your sprinkler blowout yet, don’t delay!
Winterization: Starts at $95 for 12 zones or fewer; $95/hour for larger systems.
Backflow Testing: $85 standalone, or $40 when done with a closing/opening.
Brinx Tip: Freezing water in lines can cause big leaks later. Book before the first hard freeze!
4. Protect Patio Furniture & Outdoor Décor
You’ve invested in beautiful outdoor furniture — make sure it’s ready for winter.
Cover or Store: Use waterproof covers or store cushions indoors.
Clean Before Covering: A quick wipe-down prevents mildew and staining.
Add Cozy Touches: Blankets, lanterns, and fall pillows keep your space inviting for crisp evening hangouts.
Brinx Tip: I can confirm—blankets make patio naps 10x cozier. 🐾
5. Light Up the Shorter Days
With sunset coming earlier, good landscape lighting makes all the difference.
Highlight walkways, patios, and focal points for both safety and ambiance.
Energy-efficient LED fixtures keep your yard glowing through the darker months.
Brinx Tip: Warm lighting pairs perfectly with firepits, blankets, and mugs of cocoa. ☕
