July 27 - The Best Backyards Aren't About the Backyard

I've spent a lot of time watching families enjoy their backyards over the years, and I've noticed something important. The best outdoor spaces aren't necessarily the biggest or the most expensive—they're the ones that bring people together. Whether it's a quiet cup of coffee in the morning, kids laughing in the pool, or everyone gathered around a fire pit after sunset, those moments are what make a backyard truly special.

Summer has a way of slowing life down just enough to remind us why spending time outside matters. Instead of everyone being in separate rooms looking at different screens, the backyard naturally becomes the gathering place. Meals taste better outdoors, conversations last longer, and somehow even simple evenings become memories you'll look back on years from now.

Creating a backyard that encourages those moments doesn't always require a complete renovation. Comfortable seating, thoughtful lighting, colorful landscaping, and a well-designed patio can completely change how your family uses the space. Even something as simple as adding shade or improving your landscape can make your backyard more inviting during the hottest part of the day.
