Brinx’s Backyard Blog : Mud Season Is Here (And I Have Thoughts)
Hi friends, Brinx here.
March in Kansas means one thing: mud. One minute it’s freezing, the next it’s 60°, and suddenly your backyard feels like a squishy obstacle course. While I personally enjoy inspecting every muddy pawprint, your patio and lawn might not.
This is the perfect time to check your drainage. If you’re noticing pooling water near patios, around foundations, or in low spots in your yard, that’s your early warning sign. French drains, proper grading, and well-placed downspouts can save you from major headaches later in spring.
Now’s also a great time to inspect hardscapes. Freeze-thaw cycles can shift pavers and cause small cracks in concrete. Catching those early means simple repairs instead of bigger fixes later.
And let’s talk lawn prep. Even though it’s not lush and green yet, March is ideal for:
Cleaning up debris and fallen branches
Light dethatching if needed
Scheduling aeration
Checking irrigation systems before spring startup
Trust me — summer Brinx prefers a yard that drains properly and doesn’t swallow tennis balls.
👉 If your yard turns into a splash zone every March, it’s time to fix it before April showers hit.
