Brinx’s Backyard Blog : Sprinklers Before Squirrels (Spring Prep Starts Now)

Listen. I love chasing squirrels. But I love a properly functioning sprinkler system even more.

Before full spring growth kicks in, March is the smart time to schedule your irrigation startup and backflow test. Kansas weather is unpredictable, and freezing temps can crack fittings, damage valves, or cause hidden leaks.

Here’s what to check:

  • Broken or tilted sprinkler heads

  • Low water pressure

  • Soggy areas that could indicate underground leaks

  • Controller settings (daylight savings is coming!)

Early testing means you avoid the panic of discovering a geyser in April when everything starts greening up.

If you’ve been thinking about adding zones, improving coverage, or converting to more efficient nozzles, this is also the month to plan it. Waiting until May means waiting in line.

👉 Let’s make sure your system is ready before the grass decides it’s showtime.
